Biography

Tori Haring–Smith has directed for professional and academic theatres since 1986, and her work has been seen on professional stages in New York, Cairo, Phoenix, Boston, Tucson, Chicago, Los Angeles and Providence. She has been cited as best director in several year-end reviews, and her work is profiled in Shadows of Realism by Nancy Kindelan and Women Stage Directors Speak by Rebecca Daniels.

Dr. Haring-Smith was a professor of theatre and writing at for 16 years. During her time at Brown, she funded, established, and administered the Rose Writing Fellows Program, a cross-curricular writing and speaking initiative. She later served as chair of the Department of Performing and Visual Arts at the .

She returned to the United States to serve as Executive Director of the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, and then served as Vice-president for Educational Affairs and of the College of Arts & Sciences at in . She was named as the 12th President of on October 17, 2005.

Dr. Haring-Smith received a bachelor’s degree from and doctoral and master's degrees from the . As an undergraduate, she received a fellowship from the Thomas J. Watson Foundation to study abroad.
