Audition Requirements

Auditioners will each be assigned a 5 minute audition slot in which to share a prepared monologue and song. Auditioners will also be taught a short dance combination during a group dance call; please dress to move and bring a waterbottle.

  • Monologues: Please prepare a 60-90 second comedic monologue.
  • Songs: For vocal auditions, please prepare a brief 16 - 32 bar (about 1 minute) musical selection that best highlights your singing ability. You may sing any song that you are comfortable with but we recommend choosing songs from the Musical Theatre genre. You must bring sheet music - in the appropriate key - for the accompanist, or have a backing track ready on an electronic device.

Dance Audition Requirements

Urinetown is a movement-heavy show with nods to classic musical theatre dance styles. Actors will need to have commitment to movement, but do not necessarily need to be “technically” skilled dancers. Urinetown has bold characters and your dance choices should reflect that. All roles will be dancing/moving in the show.

Dance call. Please wear clothes and shoes (jazz, character heels or tennis shoes) that you can move in. You will be taught a short combo to assess dance ability.

Dance Captain. We are specifically looking for someone in the cast to take on the role as Dance Captain. This will be a great opportunity to have a leadership role within the show. Previous dance experience is required. Responsibilities include cleaning dance numbers, running and setting numbers when the choreographer is not present or when the ensemble is not being used in other parts of rehearsals. If you are interested in this role, reach out to Megan Swanson prior to auditions or you can mark this when you audition.

About the Plays

Urinetown

By Mark Hollman & Greg Kotis

Directed by Joellen Sweeney

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagements, municipal bonds and….musical theatre!
