Professor Caroline Davidson awarded a Fulbright

by Jennifer Johnson,

Caroline Davidson

The College of Law is excited to announce Professor of Law Caroline Davidson has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award. She will spend the next spring semester in Colombia.

Davidson, who teaches criminal law and criminal procedure, plans to conduct research on the treatment of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Colombian courts.

In particular, she will be comparing the approach toward SGBV taken at the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, a special transitional justice mechanism established as part of the Colombian peace agreement, with that of the ordinary criminal justice system.

“This project builds on my prior work on transitional justice efforts in domestic courts, particularly in Latin America, and judicial efforts to combat SGBV on the domestic and international level,” she said.

Davidson is among over 800 U.S. citizens who will conduct research and/or teach abroad for the year through the program. Fulbrighters engage in cutting-edge research and expand their professional networks, often continuing research collaborations started abroad and laying the groundwork for forging future partnerships between institutions.

Fulbright alumni include 61 Nobel Prize laureates, 90 Pulitzer Prize recipients and 40 who have served as a head of state or government.
